The Shostakovich Waltz 2 is an underrated and lesser-known composition by the Russian composer Dmitri Shostakovich. The piece was composed as a tribute to one of the most prominent Soviet composers of the time – Sergei Prokofiev. This song was commissioned by the Soviet Union’s Ministry of Culture in 1961 for which it had been composed for two pianos and string orchestra.
A famous Russian composer and conductor, Dmitri Shostakovich was a master of composing symphonies and string quartets, as well as several operas. He was also a keen composer of musicals, including The Nose and The Gamblers.
