piano rhythm Exercise for 3 against 2 and 4 against 3

The piano is a musical instrument that you can use to produce various sounds. For example, you can play notes, chords, and melodies on it. The most basic sound of the piano is the tone produced by pressing down the key with your finger.

The rhythm for each beat:

can be counted “One, before and after, Two, before and after,” etc, with the accents being for the LH triplets and the “be”, “and” & “ter” showing that the RH comes before, in the middle of, and after these LH notes.

Think of the “before” as a crushed note in the RH before the main note in the LH and “after” as the reverse. It works because the words “before” and “after” not only describe the placing of the RH notes relative to the main triplet rhythm but also give the correct rhythmic sound.

Do this for slow 4 against 3. Make sure the beginnings of each beat coincide.
For fast-playing, just concentrate on the beats coinciding.

For 3 against 4, (LH 4 being the main rhythm), you can count “One, after, and, before; …”.

For 3 against 2, say “One, the middle; two the middle; …”

For 2 against 3, say “One, in between; two in between; …”

There are a few basic rules to keep in mind when playing the piano.

Start with quarter notes and eighth notes, the ones that start on 1 or 2 beats. For example, play quarter notes for four beats and eighth notes for two beats. This is an important concept to master because you can easily get lost trying to figure out where each note falls within a bar of music. Try playing these rhythms at first without counting them, just focus on making sure your hands move as quickly as possible. If you get frustrated with this method of learning, try using metronome software instead. You will also be able to better understand how music works by practicing piano rhythms along with other instruments like drums or guitar.
